Product Description

The Brazil French Press coffee maker, designed in the early 80's, was our first coffee maker and quickly became a symbol of what Bodum stands for. Attractive and functional design at an affordable price. The Brazil has an ultra-light, heat-resistant borosilicate glass beaker and a polypropylene handle and base, which make the Brazil easy to use and easy to clean. The 3-part stainless steel plunger has a fine mesh filter, which allows for a premium extraction of your coffee’s aromatic oils and subtle flavors. A mesh filter allows this flavor to be delivered direct to your cup and not absorbed by a paper filter. Plus, no paper filter means no waste. The patented safety lid prevents the splashing of liquids while pressing. All parts are dishwasher safe. This 8-cup coffeemaker is (1.0 l, 34oz.) in size and is also available in 3-cup (0.35 l, 12 oz) size model.

"4.5/5, but I'll round up to 5" 2010-10-21

Excellent press pot. Inexpensive, easy to clean, and the glass beaker won't accidentally fall out and break. The capacity is also just right for making one or two mugs (14-16 oz each).

Perfect rating in functionality, but the jury is still out on durability (I've heard that the little plastic piece on the plunger doesn't always hold up well, and indeed it looks like the weak point). Style is also pretty good, though the plastic doesn't look or feel as nice as metal. Pair it with a nice conical burr grinder and you're good to go.

"very good coffee" 2010-10-20

The best tasting coffee I have ever had other than a coffee shop. Less bitter taste than the same coffee brewed with automatic drip. Clean up is somewhat of a pain but worthwhile for a really good cup at home.

"A happy purchase...but..." 2010-10-18

The only thing negative I have to say about this item is that it does not have water level marks on the unit. Otherwise, I am very happy with the unit and the purchase.

"MAKES WONDERFUL COFFEE!" 2010-10-18

I researched the different types of these and they can be very affordable such as this one or very expensive. I decided this one was the best buy for the amount of cups it makes. Great Coffee Maker that makes delicious coffee. Oprah's favorite type of coffee maker. I just love it.

Broke the pot to my nearly new Braun and instead of ordering another glass pot I decided to try this. It is affordable, well made, easy to use and makes the best coffee. I was not sure if the glass carafe could go in the microwave as I did not see that on the directions, so, I ordered the heavy glass Pyrex 1 quart measuring cup to make things even easier. I am always looking for ways to simplify and make things easier to do. For those who may not have used one of these before, The measuring cup filled to the top, goes in the microwave to boil for 4 or 5 minutes and then pour in carafe. It is the exact amount needed to fill the carafe. Be sure to put the 3 measuring spoons of coffee (comes with coffee maker) in carafe BEFORE adding the boiling water and stir the coffee and water. Let set for 4 minutes with the top on, plunger up. Then push the plunger thing down slowly to the bottom after 4 minutes is up. Coffee is ready to serve. NOTE: If you decide to use this particular measuring cup, when it is full and you first start to pour the water in the carafe, mine tends to spill over for some reason. I fixed that this by making sure the pouring spout on the measuring cup when pouring in the carafe is lined up with the pouring spout on the carafe when pouring the water in and that way it does not spill over. Just go slow.

One other thing. This is suppose to be an 8 cup coffee Maker. I found it makes exactly 3 mugs for us. I guess standard mugs are larger than their "cups" . Keep this in mind , especially if you drink out of a mug and not a tiny cup, when deciding on the size of coffee press you buy. Blessings.

"Excellent Coffee Maker" 2010-10-17
By L. Aaron Dougherty (Kansas City, MO)
This thing makes the best coffee. I've been trying for a long time to make the kind of coffee I've had in restaurants and hotels while traveling (with an expense account) and this is it. Other key factors are the grinder and the beans. For the first I've found a goofy little hand cranked mill that can make the kind of course grind a French press wants, and I use Roasterie's American Restaurant blend beans, which I'm pretty sure you can get outside of Kansas City..

This coffee maker is the second I've owned, knocked the first one over and broke it's glass. The new one is essentially identical to the old, but the parts fit more loosely in this one; the glass can rotate where in the other it was such a tight a fit it couldn't. Not a problem, just odd. And when you shake the grounds out, the glass rattles a little where it didn't before.

Besides the fact that it's such an elegant design and costs so little, a nice thing about the "Brazil" is that when the plunger is out, it's all glass and plastic - you can heat your water in the coffee maker in the microwave.

One last thought - I don't know what kind of cups they're talking about; I can make 3 "normal" American sized cups out of 34 ounces...
